The department is accepting written comments on the proposed Missouri 2024-2026 303(d) Impaired Waters List until Nov. 3, 2025. The department will hold three public meetings and one public hearing about the proposed list. Please follow the links below for more information.
The department included prioritizing waters for Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) development as part of Missouri's proposed 2022 Section 303(d) Impaired Waters List. Written comments on the proposed 2022 Section 303(d) Impaired Waters List and TMDL prioritization may be submitted by mail to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Water Protection Program, Attn: Robert Voss, PO Box 176, Jefferson City, MO 65102-0176, or by email to impairedwaters@dnr.mo.gov.
Section 303(d) of the federal Clean Water Act requires that each state identify waters not meeting water quality standards and for which adequate water pollution controls have not been required. The 303(d) list helps state and federal agencies keep track of impaired waters not addressed by normal water pollution control programs. The department is required to submit Missouri's proposed 303(d) list of impaired waterbodies to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency every even numbered year.
