The Camdenton Industrial TCE Contamination Advisory Team, better known as CITCAT, is a community-led advisory team made up of local community members and other stakeholders affected by the Camdenton TCE sites. The CITCAT was created with the common goal of working together to build trust between the community and local and state agencies involved with cleaning up the TCE contamination. The team has the opportunity to review and respond to proposed remedies and solutions and is the voice for the entire community with regard to TCE contamination in Camdenton.

Group Structure

Group Structure:

During the fall of 2017, the department reached out to the community after several citizens voiced their concerns over the need for communication and meaningful involvement in the cleanup process at the Camdenton TCE sites. The department proposed facilitating the initial formation of the community advisory team, which would be made up a diverse group of people who represented all aspects and interests of the community. The department received 20 applications from citizens who were interested in participating on the community advisory team.

  1. Core Team Members - Seven citizens, chosen by the department, to help form, organize and lead the advisory team. They hold regular monthly meetings, are involved in the CITCAT operations, relay information back to the community and represent their neighbor's voices to the department.
  2. Interested Parties - Other community members and stakeholders that attend CITCAT meetings when they can to keep up on developments at the site, ask questions and voice their concerns and opinions.
  3. Presenters - Other community members and stakeholders that present research or expertise on topics relative to the CITCAT mission.

Mission:

The CITCAT's mission is to meet as needed to investigate the misuse of chemicals as related to industrial manufacturing; to play an intermediary and transparent role between the community, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and potential responsible parties (PRPs); and create an open dialogue among the community, the department and PRPs. The CITCAT will make recommendations and report findings to the department. The CITCAT will also strive to ensure that current/future generations and the environment of Camdenton are protected for all its citizens.
