The Missouri Department of Natural Resources released a proposed Redesignation Request for the Sibley Unclassifiable Area for the 2010 Sulfur Dioxide Standard. The department will hold a public hearing about the proposed redesignation request during a Missouri Air Conservation Commission meeting. Please follow the link below for more information.
The department invites the public to review and offer written comments on the proposed redesignation request until Aug. 6, 2026. Written comments may be submitted by mail to Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Air Pollution Control Program, ATTN: Air Quality Planning Section Chief, P.O. Box 176, Jefferson City, MO65102‐0176 or by email to apcpsip@dnr.mo.gov . Comments submitted by email are limited to 20 MB in size. Comments larger than 20 MB need to be submitted by mail to the address above or call 573‐751‐4817 to make other arrangements.
The public can review the proposed redesignation request below. The Sibley area includes parts of Jackson County. EPA designated the area unclassifiable under the 2010 Sulfur Dioxide standard on Sept. 12, 2016. Refined air quality dispersion modeling of actual Sulfur Dioxide emissions from sources inside and outside the area shows the area is in compliance with the 2010 standard, which supports a redesignation to attainment.
If the Commission adopts this action, the department intends to submit the plan to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. This proposed redesignation request provides the technical demonstration needed to support EPA’s formal redesignation of the area to attainment.
