The Richards-Gebaur South air monitor sits on land that once housed the Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base, named after two Kansas City area veterans. The air monitoring station is located upwind of the Kansas City metropolitan statistical area, so it helps determine ozone and PM2.5 concentrations in the region — usually before gusts of wind enter the Kansas City metropolitan area.
