JEFFERSON CITY, MO, JUNE 20, 2023 – Last month, Governor Mike Parson declared a drought alert for 60 counties including several in mid-Missouri. Finding enough hay and water for farmers will only get harder if the heat and lack of rain continues.

While many lakes in state parks are available for use by farmers, Forest Lake in Kirksville is not on the list because it is used as a source for the city’s drinking water. Water access areas can be viewed by visiting mostateparks.com/drought.
