JEFFERSON CITY, MO, FEB. 12, 2024 – Increasing farm profitability through regenerative agriculture is the focus of two free workshops scheduled for Feb. 20 and 22, 2024. The two one-day workshops are designed to help Missouri farmers understand and then successfully transition from conventional agricultural practices to more profitable, low-input regenerative practices that improve soil health and water quality.
The workshops are conducted by Understanding Ag LLC’s regenerative farmer-consultants through the nonprofit Soil Health Academy, They are partially funded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 7 through the Missouri Department of Natural Resources under the Clean Water Act’s Section 319.
The Feb. 20 workshop is set for LaVon Burris Center, #1 Center Drive in Brookfield, and the Feb. 22 session will be held at Harmony Baptist Church, 5101 S. State Highway 125 in Rogersville. Admission is free, and lunch is provided, but due to limited seating, registration is required. Check-in opens at 8 a.m., and both workshops run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
“Improving soil health is the key to increasing profitability through natural nutrient cycling,” said Understanding Ag’s Rodney Saunders, a regenerative farming consultant and workshop instructor. “These workshops will provide farmers with practical knowledge and understanding of the principles of soil health – principles that increase profitability through improved soil function.”
“What attendees will take away from these workshops is a better understanding of regenerative agriculture principles, the application of which can transform lives, increase profitability and improve the prospects for generational farm succession,” said Soil Health Academy President Dawn Brietkreutz. “Specifically, we will demonstrate how to increase profitability through natural nutrient cycling, design farm cover crop mixes, take and interpret the proper soil tests, drought proof farms, reduce input costs, use less hay and silage and make farming enjoyable again.”
