District will use the funding for wastewater regionalization
JEFFERSON CITY, MO, AUG. 1, 2023 – The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded $367,000 in financial assistance to the Boone County Regional Sewer District for regionalization of the Rollingwood treatment facility. The project is estimated to cost $367,000 and is expected to be completed by December 2023.
The Boone County Regional Sewer District Rollingwood project includes construction of a pump station to convey the flow from the district's Rollingwood Wastewater Treatment Facility to the district's Midway Crossing Wastewater Treatment Plant. It also includes closure of the existing Rollingwood facility when construction is complete.
The project is expected to reduce discharges to the environment by conveying wastewater from the site of the Rollingwood facility to the Midway Crossing plant. This will allow the Midway Crossing plant to continue to serve the district well into the future and better protect the environment.
Project funding consists of a $147,000 loan and a $220,000 grant through the Clean Water State Revolving Fund. The funding provided by the department is estimated to save the district’s ratepayers $220,000 in principal and approximately $43,000 interest payments over the loan’s 20-year term.
“The Clean Water State Revolving Fund helps Missouri communities of all sizes pay for wastewater treatment system improvements that they might not have been able to undertake otherwise,” said Dru Buntin, director of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. “We are here to help Missouri communities plan and fund infrastructure improvements that will help improve Missourians’ lives by protecting public and environmental health, and provide local economic benefits as well.”
The Clean Water State Revolving Fund finances improvements to wastewater treatment facilities, sewer collection system rehabilitation and extensions, combined sewer overflow corrections, as well as security, efficiency and conservation measures. Communities who borrow from the fund benefit from the below-market interest rate and from assistance provided throughout their project from a department project manager.
The department is committed to assisting Missouri communities with water and wastewater infrastructure improvement projects. Through its Financial Assistance Center, the department provides funding opportunities for qualified communities with water quality, wastewater and drinking water infrastructure needs. This project will be funded wholly or in part with monies received from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
