The Fellows Lake air monitoring station is located north of Springfield. It is used mainly to characterize ozone concentrations downwind of Springfield. Specifically, it is used to determine exposure of a segment of the Springfield area population to ozone. Fellows Lake meets the requirement in federal regulation for monitoring exposure to ozone of population in the Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA).

Ozone Pollutant

The primary National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS) for ozone is 0.070 parts per million (ppm) averaged over eight hours (annual fourth-highest daily maximum 8-hour concentration, averaged over three years). The federal ozone monitoring season runs from March 1 to Oct. 31.
