This permit authorizes the discharge of treated process wastewater, stormwater, surface land irrigation and subsurface soil dispersal from the meat processing industry, including, but not limited to, livestock services (slaughterhouses), meat packing plants, sausages and other prepared meat products, poultry slaughtering and processing.
Facilities discharging all effluent stormwater and wastewater directly to a combined sewer system connected to a publicly owned treatment works that has consented to receive such a discharge are exempt from permit requirements. See the master general permit for additional exemptions.
Length of Permit
The department issues this general permit for a five-year period. The effective date is July 1, 2022 and expires June 30, 2027. If a facility applies for and receives this permit on Feb. 8, 2023, their permit will expire June 30, 2027.
