This permit authorizes the discharge of process wastewater, mine/pit dewatering and stormwater discharges associated with sand and gravel mining, dredging, processing and stockpiles. Certain facilities may also be required to obtain the U.S. Corps of Engineers general permit (GP)-34M Sand and Gravel Excavation Activities. All permittees should contact the Corps before beginning operations.
This permit only covers land disturbance activities which are directly related to activities covered by this permit, so long as this permit is obtained prior to the beginning of any land disturbance activities and the conditions listed below are met. The land disturbance activities must take place at the operating location and proper Best Management Practices (BMPs)/stormwater controls must be in place and maintained. If these requirements are not met, or the department determines it is necessary, the facility will be required to obtain a separate land disturbance permit. This general permit does not cover disturbance of contaminated soils.
Length of Permit
The department issues this general permit for a five-year period. The effective date is May 23, 2022 and expires May 22, 2027. If a facility applies for and receives this permit on Aug. 11, 2026, their permit will expire May 22, 2027.
