This permit authorizes discharge of wastewater from open loop, non-recirculating heat pumps without added treatment chemicals to surface water only. Any facility adding treatment chemicals to the heat pump or injecting into groundwater must be covered under a site specific wastewater operating permit. Single family residences are exempt from this permit providing no commercial business of any kind is operating from the residence. Facilities discharging all effluent directly to a combined sewer system connecting to a publically owned treatment works that has consented to receive such a discharge are exempt from stormwater permit requirements. Length of Permit
The department issues this general permit for a five-year period. The effective date is Jan. 1, 2022 and expires Dec. 31, 2026. If a facility applies for and receives this permit on March 18, 2023, their permit will expire Dec. 31, 2026.
