On Oct. 19, 2015, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) final rule governing disposing coal combustion residuals produced by electric utilities became effective. This rule regulates coal combustion residuals from electric utilities as a non-hazardous solid waste under Subtitle D of the federal Resource Conservation and Recovery Act. EPA is in the process of finalizing amendments to the rule.
Missouri currently regulates coal combustion residual landfills as utility waste landfills. For permitting information, visit Solid Waste Landfill Permits.
