These recommendations are according to Clean Air Act Section 107(d)(1) and follow EPA guidance. The proposal includes evaluating monitoring data, emissions, meteorology and other factors to recommend designations (e.g. attainment, nonattainment, unclassifiable) for each area of the state. Nonattainment recommendations are for areas with monitored violations of the standard or any areas contributing to a monitored violation. All other areas are recommended to be designated attainment/unclassifiable. The department's Air Program intends to submit the recommendations to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) by March 31, 2025, and EPA is anticipated to designate areas by Feb. 6, 2026.
