Release Date

As fall approaches and the prairie is alive with color, it is the perfect time to go on a wildflower walk Sept. 17 at Prairie State Park near Mindenmines. The walk will begin at 10 a.m. and visitors should meet at the park’s Regal Tallgrass Prairie Nature Center.

The walk will take visitors through the prairie with colorful wildflowers such as asters and goldenrods as they learn about the prairie ecosystem. The hike will be about 1.6 miles and should last approximately two hours. Participants should dress for the weather and hiking across a prairie so sturdy shoes, long pants and insect repellent are recommended. Don’t forget to bring water and a camera.
