The public can learn more about the night sky at Mark Twain State Park with a viewing session for the Perseid meteor shower. Sponsored by Missouri State Parks, the event will take place at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 14 at the Buzzards Roost Picnic Area.
The Perseid meteor shower peaks in mid-August and is one of the brightest meteor showers of the year. On Aug. 14, there will be little or no moon, which will make the meteor shower easier to view with the naked eye. Additionally, guests will be able to learn more about meteors, comets and constellations. While visitors may bring their own telescope, the park will have telescopes available.
