A Civil War living history event will be held on Saturday, April 11, at Battle of Pilot Knob State Historic Site in Pilot Knob. Sponsored by Missouri State Parks, the event will be held from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and is made possible thanks to the Friends of Fort Davidson and the Turner Brigade.
The event will feature the Turner Brigade, a Union Civil War re-enacting group made up of infantry, artillery, civilian and sometimes cavalry units. Spring was traditionally the time during the war when military units would reorganize after a long winter. They would train and drill, readying themselves for the summer and fall battle campaign season.
The event will get underway with muster and spring drill. There will be ongoing small arms and artillery drill throughout the day. The re-enactors will be in Civil War costume and portray life in military and refugee camps at the time. This family-friendly activity will be coupled with the displays in the museum and will provide an excellent learning experience for children.
Battle of Pilot Knob State Historic Site, formerly Fort Davidson State Historic Site, is located at the junction of Hwy 21 and Hwy 221 in Pilot Knob.
