JEFFERSON CITY, MO, FEB. 13, 2024 – Winter is the best time of the year to do some bird watching. Each year, Missouri’s state parks and individuals participate in the Great American Backyard Bird Count.

Join park team members to participate in this annual international event of collecting and submitting data to help our feathered friends. Accompany park teams at Current River State Park or Echo Bluff State Park (or both) to discover the diversity of birds found in the area. If you participate at both parks, please note if the birds are the same at each park or if they vary.

There will be a short walk at each park. A limited supply of field guides and binoculars will be available, but participants are encouraged to bring their own if they have them.

Both events take place Friday, Feb. 16. Times and locations are:

  • 8-8:30 a.m. at Echo Bluff State Park, Terrapin Station Shelter, located at 35244 Echo Bluff Drive in Eminence.
  • 9-9:30 a.m. at Current River State Park, boat house, located at 11053 County Road 19D in Salem.
