The public in invited to celebrate all things bison at Prairie State Park. The National Bison Day celebration will include a guided bison hike and programs throughout the day starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7 at the Tallgrass Prairie Nature Center.
The bison is North America’s largest land mammal, and this event will allow guests to spend the day learning about this amazing animal. In addition to the guided hike, programs will include Osage uses of bison, a bison video and activity sheets. Bison chili will also be available to try.
Visitors choosing to join the hike should be prepared for a two-mile hike over uneven terrain. Bringing water, snacks, insect repellent, a hat, sunscreen, and wearing sturdy shoes is recommended. Binoculars will be useful in looking at bison as well as other wildlife.
