A presentation on the impact of looting of artifacts will be held Saturday, Sept. 17 at the Missouri State Museum in Jefferson City. Heather Gibbs, an archaeologist with the Missouri State Historic Preservation Office will be the guest speaker at 2 p.m. on the first floor of the Missouri State Capitol.
Gibbs will discuss looting of artifacts and the impact that these activities have on Missouri’s non-renewal cultural and natural resources. Visitors will learn more about what they can do to get involved in archaeology and resource preservation.
The presentation is in conjunction with the opening of two exhibits – Looting, Hoarding and Collecting and Diggin’ for Shinies!, which focus on the looting of artifacts. The exhibits are in the Rozier Gallery, located in the Union Hotel, part of Jefferson Landing State Historic Site. Following the presentation, visitors are encouraged to see the exhibits and attend a reception at the gallery hosted by the Friends of the Missouri State Museum.
